In a series of operations over the past two days, Assam Rifles personnel have confiscated a substantial quantity of opium seeds and smuggled foreign cigarettes in Mizoram, valued at ₹8.7 crore. Ten individuals have been arrested in connection with these seizures.
An official statement released on Sunday detailed that the paramilitary forces intercepted three trucks on the outskirts of Aizawl on Friday, followed by the apprehension of another large commercial vehicle in Aizawl district's Seeling on Saturday.
According to Assam Rifles, during the searches, they recovered 650 bags of white opium seeds and 35 cartons of foreign cigarettes from the four vehicles, amounting to ₹5.9 crore. Seven individuals were detained during this operation.
Additionally, in another raid on Friday, foreign cigarettes worth ₹2.80 crore were seized from Tlangsang village in Champhai district, leading to the arrest of three more suspects.
The confiscated illegal items and the ten detainees have been handed over to the customs department and the state legal metrology department for further investigation and legal proceedings.
